What does Andon mean?
Andon (ア ン ド ン) means lantern, light or lamp in Japanese but is also a way of working within TPS (Toyota Production System) and is based on being able to alarm or stop production as soon as an error is discovered.
This is usually performed by pressing an Andon button or pulling an Andon string near your workstation, which causes a light and / or sound signal to be lit or heard. In this way, supervisors, maintenance personnel and other employees are notified that a problem has arisen.
